This 20 century seated Guanyin cradling a bottle vase with her right hand and the left hand with extended fingers gracefully hovering over the bottle's top does not stray far from the 18 century prototype. The hair is arranged in a chignon on top of her head and the white robe drapes in a flowing pattern over the feet in the lotus position. The late dating of this guanyin figure is the based on the closed bottom.
Blanc de Chine Guanyin figures are objects of worship, not unlike the Catholic Madonna and other patron saints. Many were and are being made. This Guanyin here stands out in her pleasing countenance and is better made than most.
