This large beautifully fired blackware storage jar has a strong globular form with round shoulders tapering towards the foot. The short round neck is painted with a brown slip which is a good contrast with the black hare's fur glaze that covers almost three quarters of its body. In some areas, black glaze ended in drips, an accidental effect that made the pot more desirable. The clay body is a brown stoneware thrown on the potter's wheel, the rungs are visible at the bottom part of the pot. The upper part of the pot is not smooth, there is a pattern of slight indentation best described as thumb prints, quite visible in the first image. The provenance is unknown but it was probably made in Fujian where the temmoku wares are well known, It is 19 inches tall and 19 inches in diameter.
The condition is good.
