The carved panel is of interest to the history buff. It is carved in honor of a Lady Ren The names of the people who had the panel carved in her honor are listed below the Four Large Auspicious Characters that more or less translates loosely as "May the glory of her office shines brightly as the stars." This is my literal translation and needs correction by esteemed Chinese scholars whose knowledge of literary Chinese exceed mine. The dating is within the reign of Emperor Xianfeng who ruled from 1850 to 1861. He was better known as the husband of the Dowager Empress Cixi. This carved panel should be collected by scholars who enjoy researching Chinese history by going through local gazetteers. It may not be a surprise to find the history of Lady Ren and the people who gave this panel in her honor. The dimensions are 68.5 inches wide, 26.5 inches high and 2 inches thick.
Just a thought, the interesting shape and age of the wood would make a lovely coffee table by using the other side.
Condition: Expect wear and tear and worn edges on wood
