In the late 19 and into the 20 century, the art of inside painted bottles was made popular by several famous artists and their apprentices. After the end of the Cultural Revolution in the 1970's, there was a resurgence of this art form. This uncommon shaped glass snuff bottle has a curve front and flat back form like a half moon. It is painted with a pair of tigers on one side and a single tiger on the other. The tigers are situated in a forest setting, with high mountains in the background, the atmosphere is not unlike traditional tiger paintings. The artist is very skillful in his or her rendition of the animals. The tigers have good forms and they are painted with confidence as though the artist was very familiar with the subject matter. It is not signed nor dated.
The glass bottle is also called crystal but it is really a rather expensive glass. The cap is a dark brown agate.
