The opaline (milk glass) snuff bottle has a pleasant globular shape, high neck, sloping shoulders and slightly tapering towards the base and ending in a slightly raised oval foot defined by the red overlay glass. The bottom of the foot is flat and the top opening is encased in brass. The bottle is decorated with a red glass overlay in the theme of lotus flower - open blossoms, leaves, closed buds growing out of a band of red glass representing water. The deep red overlay has been carefully carved out in clean crisp lines, the design is identical on both sides. The opaline or white background is carefully polished and smooth to the touch, a feature that showed the bottle was made with great care. The bottle stopper has a carnelian cabochon supported by a brass collar, cork and a bone spoon.
