This is quite a creative way to use a multi-color soapstone, making use of the whitish color with orange striations for the central designs of fish and lotus root and the grey color as the minor designs of lotus flower and leaves. The sculpture is secured onto the matching grey color base. Unlike older soapstone carvings, this one has movement in the direction of the fish tail as if it is swimming towards the segmented lotus root.
