The stone is howlite, a calcium borosilicate hydroxide. It is naturally white with grey veins. The snuff bottle has a unique form. It has facetted sides to accentuate its geometric shape. The carver did an exceptionally good work carving this bottle to be a six sided form. The front and back surfaces are facetted into four planes - each side is made of 2 triangles and 2 equal sided diamonds that meet at a raised point in the middle. The sides are made of two rectangular planes, the top plane is wider and gives it a tapering form. The shoulder and base are flat. It has great presence. The stopper is of the same material sitting on black collar.
