The painted enamel snuff bottles in the Palace Museum collections in the famille rose palette are the most beautiful and pleasing to the eye. The paintings in bright blues and rose and greens and yellows are attractive and showed off the skills of the artist painters. This tradition continues on to the present time, and this bottle is a fine contemporary bottle, exhibiting the same famille rose colors painted exquisitely and in great details on this flattened globular shape bottle. The artist is well versed in the bird and flower painting traditions and he placed a bird in a peony plant grown among rocks. The other side has the same flowers the bird is turned in another pose. The combination of peony, rock and bird is very auspicious. Bird, probably a magpie, is a harbinger or bringer of happiness and happy events, rock symboizes longevity, peony is the symbol of beauty and wealth. Together it means may you have a long life filled with wealth and beauty. The bottle is matched with a red jasper stopper on a white disk which compliments the colors of the bottle. The raised oval foot has a spurious hand written in red a four character mark of "made in the reign of Qianlong" This is no doubt done in tribute to the fine art works produced during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the 18 Century.
